I want to provide an update on my work over the past month and show you what I have been doing to serve you in the other Washington. From supporting a bipartisan resolution to keep the federal government open to fight for reproductive health, I have been listening to your concerns and fighting to deliver on the issues you care about.

U.S. Representative Marilyn Strickland announced her October Constituent Spotlight, Phillip Jackson, who was recently recognized as a local hero. While making a delivery to a convenience store, he helped reunite a lost 5-year-old boy with his mother.
Congresswoman Strickland’s Constituent Spotlight program recognizes exemplary South Sound residents. To nominate a resident of Washington’s 10th Congressional District fill out this nomination form.

Strickland, Gluesenkamp Perez Announce $70K To Support Active-Duty Military & Veteran PTSD Management
Hope for Heroes Horsemanship Center Provides Therapeutic Horsemanship To Help Regulate PTSD Symptoms
U.S. Representatives Marilyn Strickland (WA-10) and Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (WA-03) announced $70,000 for the Hope for Heroes Horsemanship Center in Yelm to provide therapeutic horsemanship to active-duty military and veterans struggling with PTSD.

- Announced $2.6 million for Washington State Patrol as part of the FY 2023 National Criminal History Improvement Program (NCHIP) project grant from the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs to improve public safety and modernize criminal history records keeping systems.
- Partnered with West Point Academy, North Thurston Public Schools and Clover Park School District on learning and career opportunities in the military for students of color after they finish high school.
Updates from the Other Washington
U.S. Representative Marilyn Strickland released a statement in support of a 45-day bipartisan Continuing Resolution to fund the federal government. Strickland is committed to keeping the federal government open, and functional for Americans across the country.
U.S. Representative Marilyn Strickland received Planned Parenthood’s 2023 Champion of Reproductive Health Award for her work in Congress, particularly highlighting how the Dobbs decision – which repealed the constitutional right to abortion – disproportionately affects low-income families and particularly women of color. Strickland is a leader in the Congressional Pro-Choice Caucus and the Congressional Black Maternal Health Caucus.
Strickland, Adams, Brown, Warnock Introduce New Legislation to Increase Transparency in Land-Grant University Funding
U.S. Representative Marilyn Strickland, U.S. Senators Sherrod Brown (D-OH) and Raphael Warnock (D-GA), and U.S. Representative Alma Adams (NC-12), introduced the Land-Grant Research Equity and Accountability Act, a new bill that would help ensure states provide Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) 1890s land-grant institutions with their fair share of state funding.
Other Legislative Work
- Released an official statement on the deadly attack on Israel by Hamas.
- Introduced the Pipeline Safety Engagement Act, legislation to create an independent Office of Public Engagement within the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA).
- Re-introduced the Stop Overdose in Schools Act, bipartisan legislation that would secure funding for naloxone training and purchasing, and would increase naloxone access for school resource officers, security personnel, and school nurses.
