May 22, 2024
Dear Friend,
I wanted to update you on my work over the past month and what I have been doing to serve you in the other Washington. From launching my annual Congressional App Challenge to introducing a bipartisan home dialysis bill, I continue to advocate on your behalf and deliver on the issues that you care about.
I continue to deliver for the South Sound and have helped secure over $65,000,000 in federal grants for local communities, non-profits, and Tribal partners – as well as returning over $480,000 to constituents since the start of the year.
Keeping It Local
As one of the first Korean American women elected to Congress, I am proud to celebrate Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. We appreciate the growing and large AANHPI community in the South Sound and how so many of you are making the South Sound a better place to live and work.
On May 10th, during Pierce County’s Affordable Housing Week, Congresswoman Marilyn Strickland (WA-10) announced $1,000,000 in federal funding for Living Access Support Alliance (LASA) to support their Campus Housing Project in Lakewood.
Congresswoman Marilyn Strickland (WA-10) announced the start of the 2024 Congressional App Challenge for middle and high school students in Washington’s 10th District.

Updates from the Other Washington
Congresswoman Marilyn Strickland, alongside Representatives Carol Miller (WV-01), Mariannette Miller-Meeks (IA-02), and Earl Blumenauer (OR – 03), introduced the Improving Access to Home Dialysis Act. This bipartisan legislation aims to increase access to home dialysis by providing trained, professional staff assistance to patients in the home and ensuring that all patients are given the education and support they need to utilize this modality if they so choose.
Extreme conservatives continue to put reproductive rights under attack. As Planned Parenthood’s Champion for Reproductive Health, based on her work in Congress – Rep. Strickland will continue highlighting disparities caused by the fall of Roe.
Congresswoman Marilyn Strickland released a statement on the passage of the Ukraine, Israel, and Indo-Pacific Supplemental Appropriations Acts, 2024.
Other Legislative Action
- As a cosponsor of the bipartisan, bicameral Affordable Connectivity Program Extension Act, joined a letter urging Speaker Johnson to fund the program and keep 34,000 South Sound households from losing internet access.
- Cosponsored the bipartisan Servicemember Quality of Life Improvement Act, which is based on the legislative recommendations made by the Quality of Life Panel that I served on, and will serve as the basis for the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2025.
