Washington, D.C. — Congresswoman Marilyn Strickland (WA-10), a member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, released the following statement after the committee passed H.R. 8870, the BUILD America 250 Act:
“The BUILD America 250 Act is a smart investment in local communities as they build, repair, and replace critical infrastructure,” said Strickland. “This bipartisan bill addresses safety, creates jobs, builds more housing near transit hubs, and complements the landmark Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act passed in 2021. I urge all of my colleagues to support this bill when it reaches the House floor.”
Under Strickland’s leadership, the bill includes key provisions to support transit and housing development, repair and replace local bridges, and more:
- Adding transportation demand management (TDM) as an eligibility under the rural and urban Surface Transportation Accelerator Grant (STAG) program.
- Advance portions of the Build More Housing Near Transit Act, helping to connect low and middle-income housing to public transit.
- Increase funding for the Bridge Formula Program to $9 billion per year to support the repair and replacement of local bridges.
Congresswoman Marilyn Strickland (WA-10) serves on the House Armed Services Committee and the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. She is Whip of the New Democrat Coalition, Secretary of the Congressional Black Caucus, and is one of the first Korean-American women elected to Congress.
