Washington, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Strickland (WA-10) spoke in support of Rep. André Carson’s (IN-07) amendment to the FEMA Act, increasing transparency by ensuring that Congress is notified when FEMA grants are awarded.

Strickland’s remarks are transcribed below, and can be viewed here:

Congresswoman Marilyn Strickland: Thank you, Chairman. I just want to express my gratitude and support for the bipartisan work happening on this, but also to thank my colleague André Carson.

One of the challenges that I consistently hear about is that people are just losing faith in our institutions and our ability to actually do the work. When we’re transparent, when we let members of Congress know where the money is going and why, we’re able to communicate that to the people that we represent. So, I thank André Carson for bringing this forward, and I urge all my colleagues to support it.

I yield back, sir.
