Lakewood, WA – Today, Congresswoman Marilyn Strickland (WA-10) announced an additional $1,000,000 in federal funding for renovations inside the Sprinker Community Recreation Center.

“Increasing accessibility to recreational spaces is vital for residents’ physical and mental health,” said Strickland. “Investing in Sprinker is long overdue. Many generations of residents will benefit from the improved recreation center.”

“Pierce County is pleased to offer the community a completely renovated and revitalized Sprinker Recreation Center outdoor complex. While the site has always been and continues to be a sports destination, it now offers families the ability to gather, exercise and play every day,” said Pierce County Executive, Bruce Dammeier.

This project funding will be used to improve the interior of the current Sprinker Community Recreation Center and meet the accessibility and safety needs of the community. This includes an upgrade to a clean, efficient HVAC system, the conversion of the current tennis center to a new sports court, and an indoor walking facility.

This award is one of the 14 FY24 Community Project Funding (CPF) grants Congresswoman Strickland secured. Read more about these projects here: https://strickland.house.gov/media/press-releases/strickland-secures-over-13-million-south-sound
