Lakewood, WA – After visiting Lincoln High School, U.S. Representative Marilyn Strickland (WA-10) announced $555,000 in federal funding for Tacoma Public Schools to support the Tacoma Professional Pipeline Project.

“Tacoma’s students are the future leaders of our nation’s workforce, and we must invest in their career development and personal growth,” said Rep. Strickland. “I am excited to deliver funding that benefits students in our region and supports a diverse workforce that enriches the local economy.”

“We are already seeing the impact of Community Project Funding for Tacoma students through programs like Seed Teacher and paid internships. I am excited to see how we can continue to grow our programs and support even more students,” said Tacoma Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Joshua Garcia.

The Tacoma Professional Pipeline Project helps Tacoma Public Schools students explore opportunities to foster their career interests. The program allows students to build skills and connect with employers located locally, in the South Sound. Employers in return have a diverse and local applicant pool to support their workforce.

This award is one of the 14 FY23 Community Project Funding (CPF) grants Congresswoman Strickland secured. Read more about these projects here: https://strickland.house.gov/media/press-releases/strickland-secures-19-million-south-sound
