Lakewood, WA – To mark the end of Pedestrian Safety Month, U.S. Representative Marilyn Strickland (WA-10) announced $3,000,000 in federal funding for Pierce County to make necessary safety improvements to Pacific Avenue SR-7 near 168 Street East.
“Pedestrian and transit improvements that prioritize safety and mobility is a top priority as the South Sound continues to grow,” said U.S. Rep. Strickland. “I am proud to deliver funding for this project that supports the Parkland-Spanaway-Midland area in Pierce County and improves safety for all users on the Pacific Ave SR-7 corridor.”
“The Pacific Avenue SR-7, Pedestrian and Transit Access Improvements Project is an important project to connect different communities, provide significant safety benefits in congested corridors, promote public transportation, and encourage non-motorized transportation,” said Pierce County Executive Bruce Dammeier. “This project is possible due to the partnerships between local governments, community groups, transit advocates, and U.S. Representative Marilyn Strickland’s commitment to provide these much-needed benefits in our County.”
Pacific Avenue SR-7 is a critical connector between downtown Tacoma and the Parkland-Spanaway-Midland area in Pierce County. This project increases access and mobility to a historically underserved area of South Tacoma. This federal funding supports improved safety and mobility for pedestrians and for transit, including the approved future enhanced bus service.
