Dear Friend,
I want to update you on my visits around the South Sound in the past month and show you what I have been doing to serve you in the other Washington. From visiting Summer Late Nights at Baker Middle School to announcing funding for the Pierce County Metro Dive Team, I have been busy listening to your concerns and fighting to deliver on the issues you care about.
Keeping It Local
U.S. Representative Marilyn Strickland (WA-10) announced $247,731 in federal funding for the Pierce County Metro Dive Team to update diving equipment that has been in use for the last two decades.
On Thursday, October 5th, 2023 from 11:00 A.M to 12:00 P.M. at Lacey City Hall, U.S. Rep. Marilyn Strickland will host a Vietnam War era Veterans Pinning Ceremony to honor local veterans in partnership with the U.S. Vietnam Veterans Pin Commission.
U.S. Rep. Marilyn Strickland announced her September Constituent Spotlight, Matthew Landers, who serves as an educator at Pleasant Glade Elementary in Lacey. He is recognized for his many environment-minded contributions to his school and community.
Congresswoman Strickland’s Constituent Spotlight program recognizes exemplary South Sound residents. To nominate a resident of Washington’s 10th Congressional District, fill out this nomination form.
Washington state received a $23.4 million Grid Resilience State and Tribal Formula Grant from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to modernize the electric grid and reduce impacts due to extreme weather and natural disasters. Grid Resilience State and Tribal Formula Grants aim to ensure the reliability of power sector infrastructure so that communities have access to affordable, reliable, clean electricity.

- Visited Summer Late Night at Baker Middle School. This summer program helped local non-profits across the South Sound engage more than a thousand middle and high school students with weekly nighttime activities and resources to deter youth violence
- Announced the 2023 Congressional App Challenge for middle and high school students in Washington’s 10th District. To participate, students must register and submit their app by November 1st, 2023.
Updates from the Other Washington
U.S. Representative Marilyn Stickland joined seven members of the Washington congressional delegation calling for the State to provide answers about its long-term plan to reduce critical Byrne Justice Assistance Grant (Byrne JAG) funding for regional drug task forces that help local communities fight the opioid epidemic.
Watch me on KIRO 7 News, where I joined Elle Thomas and Aaron Wright to talk about protecting a women’s right to choose and how relaunching the bipartisan Grid Innovation Caucus is helping to protect Washington’s power grid.
Other Legislative Work
- Supported efforts to lower Medicare costs by making prescription drugs more affordable.
- Joined nine members of the Washington congressional delegation in a letter, calling for the U.S. Department of Transportation to award funds for the Cascadia High-Speed Rail project.
- To mark the 250th anniversary of the founding of our Nation, the United States Mint (Mint) will be minting and issuing redesigned 2026-dated circulating coins. Provide your input on the 2026 redesigned coin.
