U.S. Representative Marilyn Strickland (WA-10) announced her June Constituent Spotlight, Sarah Harris, the City of Puyallup’s Parks and Recreation Director. Harris retired in May 2023, after 35 years of working for the City. She is recognized for her commitment to the City of Puyallup, and for growing and improving the city’s Parks and Recreation systems.

“As a leader in local government, Sarah dedicated her career to improving the Puyallup and South Sound communities,” said U.S. Rep. Strickland. “I am honored to recognize Sarah for her remarkable public service and her skilled leadership throughout her career and congratulate her on her well-deserved retirement.”

“35 years is a long time, but I can honestly say I have enjoyed every moment of it. Puyallup has been my home and I love this community and working for the City,” said Harris. “I feel like we got a lot of work done in my time, and my hope is that I have served Puyallup well.”

Harris served as the City of Puyallup’s Parks and Recreation Director for over 10 years. As Director, she oversaw several large projects including the creation of Van Lierop Park, the renovation of the Recreation Center, and the installation of Puyallup’s first-ever Spray Park.

As a graduate of Arkansas College, Harris has a long career in sports and recreation. After moving to Washington, she took her first job with the City of Puyallup in 1988.

In retirement, Harris plans to spend more time with her grandchildren.
