Washington, D.C.— On Monday, November 8th at 4:00 PM PT, Congresswoman Marilyn Strickland (WA-10) and the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute (CCAI) will hold a virtual roundtable discussion with State Senator T’wina Nobles (28th LD) and Amara, a Pacific Northwest based nonprofit that serves children in foster care, their families, and adoptees. The discussion will focus on the impacts of the opioid crisis on the U.S. foster care system and how we can better support foster youth. Strickland, a member of the Congressional Caucus on Foster Youth and the Addiction, Treatment, and Recovery Caucus, recently introduced the FOSTER Act, bipartisan legislation to provide support, training, and resources to foster children and caregivers affected by the opioid crisis.

Congresswoman Marilyn Strickland serves as Vice Chair of the Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines, and Hazardous Materials on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, and is the only African-American woman who serves on the House Armed Services Committee. She is one of the first Korean-American women elected to Congress and the first African-American to represent the Pacific Northwest at the federal level.
