NW Asian Weekly: Strickland criticizes Trump administration over ICE actions

Rep. Marilyn Strickland sharply criticized the administration’s approach to law enforcement and immigration actions on Tuesday, saying it has failed to keep Americans safe and has “broken that promise” by deploying federal forces in U.S. cities.

“This Administration was voted in on the promise that it would deliver safety for all Americans. DHS broke that promise the moment they started marching into American cities and turning their guns on innocent citizens under the pretense of protecting communities,” Strickland said.

“At every turn, they are choosing the most reckless response possible, and then refusing to be held accountable for it… No accountability whatsoever when a masked ICE agent shot a 37-year-old woman in Minneapolis, in the face. No accountability when the Administration then stonewalled state and local law enforcement trying to conduct a fair, fact-finding investigation,” she added.

Strickland called the policy response “domestic terrorism,” saying “American lives have become an afterthought to this Administration’s ultimate goal of scaring people, declaring martial law, and using ICE as the President’s personal police force.”

The remarks come amid national controversy over a fatal shooting by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer in Minneapolis, part of a broader and intensifying federal immigration enforcement operation that has drawn protests and legal challenges.
