I wanted to update you on my work over the past month. From visiting federally funded infrastructure projects in the South Sound to addressing mental health appointments for veterans, I am continuing to deliver on the issues that you care about.
Since the start of the year, I’ve also helped secure over $600,000,000 in federal grants for local communities, non-profits, and Tribal partners and returned over $1,150,000 to constituents.
Keeping It Local
Strickland Honors Local Vietnam Veterans
During National Veterans and Military Families Month, Congresswoman Marilyn Strickland (WA-10) hosted her annual Vietnam Veterans Pinning Ceremony to honor local veterans in partnership with the US Vietnam Veterans Pin Commission.
Federal Infrastructure Investments – Repairing Roads, Increasing Safety, and Improving Access Across the South Sound
Strickland recently visited several South Sound projects that are funded by the Infrastructure, Investment, and Jobs Act (IIJA) and the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). With dozens of projects across Pierce and Thurston Counties either completed or under construction, these federal investments are making streets safer, fighting the climate crisis, expanding transportation options, and much more.
Strickland, Kilmer Help Tacoma Rail Receive Over $8.3M Reduce Emissions
The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) announced over $8,300,000 for Tacoma Rail a short line operating out of the Port of Tacoma, provides vital services to the local and regional economies.

- Toured the Nisqually Indian Tribe, to visit current and future projects funded through a $5.4 million grant from the Environmental Protection Agency and the Inflation Reduction Act.
- Fought to expand the Impact Aid Program, a critical funding source for Clover Park School District and North Thurston School District – specifically serving JBLM students and families.

Strickland Calls for Veteran Mental Health Scheduling Improvements
Congresswoman Marilyn Strickland (WA-10) led a bipartisan letter to U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Secretary Denis McDonough, urging the department to streamline the current scheduling system for veteran mental health appointments.
Strickland, Escobar, and Jacobs Introduce the Access to Contraception for Servicemembers and Dependents Act of 2024
Congresswoman Marilyn Strickland (WA-10), Congresswoman Veronica Escobar (TX-16), and Congresswoman Sara Jacobs (CA-51) introduced the Access to Contraception for Servicemembers and Dependents Act of 2024. Studies have shown that servicemembers face unique challenges accessing contraception and family planning counseling, especially when deployed
Other Legislative Action
- Signed the Medicare Hearing Aid Coverage Act to allow for Medicare coverage of hearing aids and hearing aid-related examinations.
- Joined a letter urging Armed Services leadership to reject any provisions that undermine diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives in the final 2025 National Defense Authorization Act.
