Lacey, WA — Today, Congresswoman Marilyn Strickland (WA-10) announced $500,000 in federal funding for Homes First to support their renovations at O’Farrell Senior Co-Housing in Olympia.

“Seniors are essential members of our communities, and they deserve access to safe and affordable housing,” said Strickland. “Bringing federal funding to this project furthers our commitment to our elders and keeping them safely housed.”

Trudy Soucoup, CEO of Homes First emphasized that the major funding from HUD, made possible through the efforts of Congresswoman Marilyn Strickland, “will significantly enhance our ability to provide safe, affordable housing options for seniors, allowing them to age in place with dignity and security. This project reflects a crucial step toward increasing housing accessibility for vulnerable populations.”

Soucoup expressed deep appreciation for the federal support enabling the senior accessory dwelling unit (ADU) project, highlighting how it addresses critical housing needs for older adults in the community.

The O’Farrell Senior Co-Housing project will renovate and construct new housing units that will serve both single seniors and couples. Homes First creates and maintains safe, healthy, and affordable rental homes for those who need them most in Thurston County.

This award is one of the 14 FY24 Community Project Funding (CPF) grants Congresswoman Strickland secured. Read more about these projects here: https://strickland.house.gov/media/press-releases/strickland-secures-over-13-million-south-sound
