Lacey, WA – Today, Congresswoman Marilyn Strickland (WA-10) announced $500,000 in federal funding for the South Puget Sound Habitat for Humanity to support the development of mixed-income housing.
“Our housing supply is not keeping pace with demand,” said Strickland. “South Puget Sound Habitat for Humanity works tirelessly to provide safe and affordable housing options for families.”
“It’s a critical time to invest in affordable housing as home sales and rental prices that far outpace wages are leaving our South Sound neighbors with few options for staying and thriving in their own communities. We are grateful to Congresswoman Strickland for recognizing this need to act and choosing to support our upcoming multi-year, multi-million-dollar Boulevard development in Olympia with critical early funding,” said South Puget Sound Habitat for Humanity CEO, Elizabeth Walker. “The development—which features net-zero energy use, easy transit access, a park next door, and communal-use space—will make it possible for 112 first-time homeowners to purchase an affordable home and invest back into the community they call home.”
The 3900 Boulevard Project will increase the availability of affordable housing for low—and moderate-income families and address homelessness issues that impact Thurston County. Approximately 100-110 units are anticipated to be developed, and their affordability will be maintained in perpetuity.
This award is one of the 14 FY24 Community Project Funding (CPF) grants Congresswoman Strickland secured. Read more about these projects here: https://strickland.house.gov/media/press-releases/strickland-secures-over-13-million-south-sound
