Dear Friend,
I wanted to update you on my work over the past month and what I have been doing to serve you in the other Washington. From hosting a community forum at Panorama to introducing the bicameral Women and Underrepresented Minorities in STEM Booster Act, I have been listening to your concerns and fighting to deliver on the issues you care about.
Keeping It Local
The Office of Congresswoman Marilyn Strickland and the Thurston County Office of the Auditor are holding a passport acceptance fair for first time applicants or people with expired passports (5+ years). Please bring required documents and fees for entrance to the event.

Congresswoman Marilyn Strickland (WA-10) is hosting two U.S. Service Academy Information Nights. The first informational session will be held on Tuesday, April 23rd in Lakewood and the second will be held on Thursday, April 25th in Lacey.
These informational sessions are recommended for all interested high school and middle school students residing in Washington’s 10th Congressional District. Students who attend will be able to meet with academy field representatives from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, and the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. - Funded new and improved bus shelters for the South Sound. $2.5 million in federal funding is going to Pierce Transit to build safe and long-lasting bus shelters across Pierce County.
- Visited Panorama Retirement Community for a community forum to hear more from seniors living in the South Sound.

Strickland, Brown, Hirono, Lead Colleagues in Introducing Legislation to Promote Diversity in STEM
U.S. Representatives Marilyn Strickland, Shontel Brown (OH-11), and U.S. Senator Mazie K. Hirono (D-HI) led 20 of their colleagues in reintroducing the bicameral Women and Underrepresented Minorities in STEM Booster Act of 2024, legislation to create new federal grants for programs focused on professional development, training, mentoring, and outreach activities of women and minorities in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields.
Other Legislative Work
- Supported the Accordable Connectivity Program Extension Act, and called on House leadership to preserve this crucial program that expires at the end of this month.
- Celebrated the House passage of the Puyallup Tribe of Indians Land into Trust Act. The bill now heads to President Biden’s desk for signature.
