Today, U.S. Representative Marilyn Strickland (WA-10) announced her March Constituent Spotlight, Chris Hyde. Hyde is a long time Olympia resident and the founder of Souper Sunday, a popular Facebook group which aims to give free soup to anyone in need of a healthy and free meal.
“Chris Hyde provides more than just free nutritious meals to those in Olympia. Souper Sunday has built a community founded in inclusivity and compassion.” said U.S. Rep. Strickland. “Hyde is a stellar example of what it means to be an active member of a community, and I am proud to have him as my constituent of the month.”
“My mission is to provide delicious, healthy, nutrient dense soup to anyone regardless of income, country of origin, legal status, political affiliation, religion, gender identification or anything else.” said Chris Hyde. “I have created a local food hub that offers other solid foods in addition to soup.”
Souper Sunday has become so popular that Hyde now makes soup five days a week and offers frozen soup everyday through what he refers to as his “Soup Library”. In addition to providing healthy and nutritious meals, Souper Sunday builds community and promotes inclusivity through the Olympia community. Hyde is actively looking to start similar soup groups in other neighbors and continue to spread kindness throughout the South Sound.
In addition to his work running Souper Sunday, Hyde is an artist, musician, and entrepreneur who enjoys being of service to his beloved Olympia community.
Congresswoman Strickland’s Constituent Spotlight program recognizes exemplary South Sound residents. To nominate a resident of Washington’s 10th Congressional District fill out this nomination form.
