U.S. Representative Marilyn Strickland (WA-10) announced her December Constituent Spotlight, Katelyn Cleland. Katelyn is a South Sound resident who has recently been awarded the Bronze Medal Congressional Award for her efforts in community service and personal development.

“Her desire to better both herself and her community is admirable, and I could not be more impressed that she has earned a Congressional Medal for her efforts,” said U.S. Rep Strickland. “I am proud to have Katelyn as my December Constituent of the Month.”

The Congressional Award program is Congress’ highest form of recognition that can be granted to America’s youth. From this program, there has been a combined total of 8.5 million hours of community service.

“It is an honor to receive this Congressional Medal,” said Katelyn Cleland. “It symbolizes that I can push past my own limits and accomplish any goal I put my mind to.”

To be a recipient of the Congressional Award, one must demonstrate exemplary community engagement and strong acts of self-improvement. Young Americans may register for the Congressional Award when they turn 13 ½ years old and must complete their activities by their 24th birthday.
