CONSTITUENT SPOTLIGHT: PHILLIP JACKSON

Graphic of the county

U.S. Representative Marilyn Strickland (WA-10) announced her October Constituent Spotlight, Phillip Jackson, who was recently recognized as a local hero. While making a delivery to a convenience store, he helped reunite a lost 5-year-old boy with his mother.

“The South Sound is lucky to have people like Phillip,” said U.S. Rep. Strickland. “His kindness and initiative are examples of what makes this place such a bright community.”

While making a delivery to a West Olympia Texaco, Jackson noticed the boy was in the convenience store by himself without a shirt or shoes on. He quickly recognized the danger and urgency of the situation and took the initiative to call the police. This simple action helped to reunite the boy with his mother, who had been working with the police to find him.

In an interview with King 5 News, Jackson said that after seeing the boy steal a bag of M&Ms from the store, he “instantly called 911, not because he stole it, but because he’s a little kid and there’s no adult around in sight.” Even after calling 911, he stayed with the child to make sure he was safe.

Jackson is a delivery driver for Columbia Distributing, and he credits his actions to a recent training that focused on teaching drivers to recognize signs of human trafficking and children in danger. Along with being a delivery driver, Jackson and his partner, Kayla, are the owners of the newly opened Shelton Candy Shoppe.
