Dear Friend,
I want to update you on my visits around the South Sound in the past month and show you what I have been doing to serve you in the other Washington. From moving to codifying nondiscrimination in the military to supporting small businesses in the South Sound, I have been busy listening to your concerns and fighting to deliver on the issues you care about.
Keeping It Local
U.S. Representative Marilyn Strickland attended the Downtown Olympia Alliance Summer BBQ and met with South Sound’s small business owners who are foundational to fostering strong communities.
U.S. Representative Marilyn Strickland announced her August Constituent Spotlight, Ian “Shige” Ainoa, an Air Force veteran who currently works for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as an IT specialist and scientific diver.

Updates from the Other Washington
Strickland Leads Bicameral Legislation Directing $100 Million To Combat Health Risks Of Extreme Heat
U.S. Representative Marilyn Strickland, Senator Edward J. Markey (D-MA), Senator Alex Padilla (D-CA), Senator Kyrsten Sinema (I-AZ), Rep. Suzanne Bonamici (OR-01) and Rep. Ruben Gallego (AZ-03) reintroduced the Preventing Health Emergencies And Temperature-related (HEAT) Illness and Deaths Act to address the rising health risks of extreme heat following Earth’s hottest day on record.
On the 75th anniversary of the Presidential executive order that desegregated the military, U.S. Representative Marilyn Strickland introduced the Equal and Uniform Treatment in the Military (EQUITY) Act to codify equality in the armed forces into law and prohibit discrimination.
U.S. Representative Marilyn Strickland announced that her provisions to modernize airport management systems, improve public transit access to airports, support FAA employees, and create aviation career pathways for veterans were included in the bipartisan Securing Growth and Robust Leadership in American Aviation Act that passed the House.
Other Legislative Work
- Spoke on the House floor, against those undermining diversity and inclusion and validating extremism.
- Continued to advance the Puyallup Tribe of Indians Land Into Trust Act which will honoring treaty rights while granting fair access to economic opportunities as the tribe restores their ancestral land.
