July 14, 2023
Dear Friend,
I want to update you on my visits around the South Sound in the past month and show you what I have been doing to serve you in the other Washington. From fighting for access to reproductive health care to visiting several Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act funded projects across the South Sound, I have been busy listening to your concerns and fighting to deliver on the issues you care about.
Keeping It Local
Last month, U.S. Representative Marilyn Strickland (WA-10) toured several Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) funded projects across the South Sound. Since IIJA became law in late 2021, dozens of local infrastructure priorities have been completed or are under construction. This once-in-a-generation federal investment in our local communities is already making our streets safer, our water cleaner, and getting more people access to reliable broadband.
U.S. Representative Marilyn Strickland (WA-10) announced her July Constituent Spotlight, Trenton Brazie, an Army veteran who is currently serving as a firefighter in the City of Tumwater.
Congresswoman Strickland’s Constituent Spotlight program recognizes exemplary South Sound residents. To nominate a resident of Washington’s 10th Congressional District, fill out this nomination form.
Strickland, EPA, City of Tumwater Tour Brewery Brownfields Grant Site
U.S. Representative Marilyn Strickland joined U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 10 Administrator Casey Sixkiller and the City of Tumwater to tour areas of the 100-acre Olympia Brewery brownfield site to highlight the immediate impact of the $500,000 EPA Brownfields grant the City of Tumwater recently received. Funding will be used to start the first phase of cleaning up this brownfield site with an environmental assessment.

Strickland Appointed To House Armed Services Committee Quality of Life Panel
Last month U.S. Representative Marilyn Strickland announced her appointment to the House Armed Services Committee’s Bipartisan Quality of Life Panel.
“Meeting the basic needs of servicemembers is foundational to our national security,” said U.S. Rep. Strickland. “Since my first day in Congress, I have been committed to addressing the quality-of-life issues facing servicemembers including affordable and accessible housing, pay and benefits, and spousal employment. I look forward to working with my colleagues to fight for the dignity of the uniformed men and women who serve our country.”
U.S. Representative Marilyn Strickland, Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH), Senator Raphael Warnock (D-GA), Rep. Alma Adams (NC-12), and Rep. Sanford Bishop (GA-02) introduced bicameral legislation, The 1890s Advancing and Building Leadership and Excellence Opportunity Act of 2023, known as the ENABLE Opportunity Act of 2023.
Other Legislative Work
- Announced the relaunch of the bipartisan Grid Innovation Caucus (GIC) for the 118th Congress.
- Stayed at the Capitol overnight, through a 14-hour committee meeting to ensure this year’s defense policy bill addresses quality of life issues for our servicemembers at JBLM and across the country. Meeting their basic needs will remain the highest priority as the bill goes to before the full House for final passage.
- Introduced the bicameral Military Access to Reproductive Care and Health (MARCH) for Military Servicemembers Act, to allow the Department of Defense (DoD) to use available funds and facilities to perform abortions.
