Lakewood, WA – Today, U.S. Representative Marilyn Strickland (WA-10) announced $1.5 million in federal funding for the Emergency Food Network of Tacoma and Pierce County (EFN) to build an additional warehouse at their Lakewood campus.
“An additional Emergency Food Network warehouse in Lakewood helps more families address their needs,” said Strickland. “I am proud to deliver this federal funding that fills an essential need in the community, and I will continue to fight for critical services to address food insecurity in the South Sound.”
“We are so grateful for the long-term leadership provided by Congresswoman Strickland throughout her years in office,” said Michelle Douglas, Emergency Food Network CEO. “Her consistent support for essential services in Pierce and Thurston County has been crucial, especially as the need for food has continued to rise. Congresswoman Strickland’s advocacy work to ensure funding for our additional warehouse has been a game changer and it will allow Emergency Food Network to continue to serve our 75 plus partner food pantries well into the future!”
This federal funding is allowing EFN to increase their food storage capacity by 22,000 square – feet – or 40%. Strickland continues to champion solutions for food insecurity in Congress, especially as it relates to military families.
This award is one of 14 FY23 Community Project Funding (CPF) grants Congresswoman Strickland secured. Read more about these here: https://strickland.house.gov/media/press-releases/strickland-secures-19-million-south-sound
