Congresswoman Marilyn Strickland (WA-10) announced her May Constituent Spotlight, Celiana Tupua-Denser, a faculty member for the Practical Nursing Program at Clover Park Technical College (CPTC) and an alumnus of the CPTC Practical Nursing Program. Tupa-Denser is recognized for her inspiring classroom instruction for future nurses.
“Celiana is a thoughtful educator and leader at Clover Park Technical College,” said Strickland. “As a nurse and student pursuing her master’s, she works hard to give back to the community that supports her passion for nursing. I am especially proud to recognize Celiana during National Nurses Month.”
“The better education we provide for future nurses, the greater impact we have on the health of the communities we serve. The most rewarding part of being a nurse educator is watching the spark of understanding in my students as they go through the process of developing the mindset of a nurse. It is truly a privilege to have a part in their journey and to be one of the people who prepares them for the nursing profession,” said Tupua-Denser.
After graduating from the CPTC Practical Nursing Program, Tupua-Denser received her Registered Nurse license and began working as a cardiac nurse while pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of Washington-Tacoma (UWT). She is now pursuing a Master of Nursing degree at UWT while teaching at CPTC as a tenure-track faculty member.
In the classroom, Tupua-Denser teaches students how to care for patients from both an equitable and holistic lens and prepares students for their nursing careers by using simulators to create scenarios that students might face in the industry.
Tupua-Denser’s dedication to the nursing profession is greatly appreciated by her students, patients, and fellow educators across the South Sound.
